Chargers Men's Golf Places 12th at IVCC Classic

Trace White (Mount Pleasant, Iowa/Mount Pleasant) shot in the 70s for each round as the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team competed in the IVCC Classic on Friday and Saturday.

The Chargers shot 323 in Friday’s first round at Deer Park and added a 316 in Saturday’s round at Oak Ridge for a 639 total, putting Sandburg in 12th place. The Chargers were two shots behind Highland and Sauk Valley for 10th and four back of Madison for ninth. Parkland won with a 584 total.

White tied for 32nd overall after shooting a first-round 79 and backing that up with a 77 on Saturday. Sophomore Grant Campbell (Earlville, Ill./Earlville) also carded a second-round 77 for the Chargers and finished at 159 for the tournament, tied for 48th.

Freshman Grant Otting (Taylor Ridge, Ill./Rockridge) tied for 52nd at 161 for the weekend after closing with a 79.

Parkland’s Mason Ghidina had rounds of 72 and 70 to finish 1 under for the tournament and take medalist honors, beating Black Hawk’s Peyton Perez by a stroke.

The Chargers will play in the Region IV Classic at noon Friday at PrairieView in Byron for their final tune-up before the Region IV Championship Oct. 3-5, also at PrairieView.
